The goal is exactly what it sounds like. I need to become part of the top 5% of humans athletically. The completion of the project would not only mean I am in peak fitness. It would improve my mental health, physical health, and general athleticism. I would become a better soccer player and a stronger runner.
Why this?
The benefits of this project are endless. I will become more motivated to be physically active without significant deviations from my daily/weekly routine. I will get to make an organized schedule so that I can fit everything into my week that needs to be fit. I'll even get to set new personal records to make the project more engaging!
How will I get there?
It is not easy to become so athletic. One must follow a routine to improve their athleticism. Lucky for me, I already have a good routine in place. I will have three days focused on weightlifting, two or three days where I practice soccer, and one day where I do a speed workout. Weightlifting days will help improve my strength and will sometimes implement some short cardio exercise. On days when I practice soccer, I will naturally improve my agility and endurance because of the amount of running and cutting I do. Speed workout days are when I give all my effort to improve my endurance. All of these activities will efficiently build on my athleticism.
What will success look like?
By the end of the 12 weeks I have, I hope to have hit several milestones in three different athletic categories. The first classification of an athlete is their strength, which determines how forceful their physical actions are. My goals for strength are as follows: Bench press my body weight, back squat 1.5 times my body weight, and dead lift 2 times my body weight. The next classification of an athlete is their endurance, which dictates how long they can carry out their actions. For me, running will be the only test of endurance I have. My goals for endurance are as follows: Run a mile in under five minutes and 35 seconds, and run 400 meters in under 55 seconds. The final classification of an athlete is their explosiveness/agility. My goals for explosiveness/agility are as follows: Vertically jump 30 or more inches, and run a 30 foot shuttle run in under seven seconds.
